The City of Edinburg would like to invite the community to our 2021 FridaFest, a festival that celebrates renowned Mexican Artist, Frida Kahlo along with the spirit of perseverance and empowerment. This annual festival will take place at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 starting at 3 p.m.

FridaFest is free and open to the public and will include live music, artists, look-a-like contests, food vendors, plenty of children’s activities and lots of great Frida inspired art.

This year’s FridaFest will continue seeing the incorporation of the Frida Procession that will take place at the City Hall Courtyard.  Before the start of the FridaFest procession, the festival will strive to set a record for the “Largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo,” this will follow with a walk of Empowerment in celebration of womanhood.

Alongside our festivities, FridaFest will also be host to the Frida Empowerment Panel and the All-Female Artist Exhibit Panel at the Historical Edinburg Municipal Auditorium. Join us at 6 p.m., on Saturday the 10th, for these women empowerment panels showcasing women from the community who have made an impact and a difference in their respective fields while highlighting their accomplishments such as Alexis Ramos.

Alexis Ramos will be the Guest Curator for the 2021 Women’s Art Exhibit. Ms. Alexis Ramos is a distinguished graduate of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the aforementioned university. Her work draws inspiration from her childhood in the Rio Grande Valley and many of her sculptures, installations, paintings, illustrate cultural homeopathic remedies and treatments.

It is because of her work and connection to the local culture that she was the perfect candidate to curate our 2021 Women’s Art Exhibit. This exhibit, which runs in conjunction with our 2021 FridaFest festival, is meant to highlight the empowering work of local Rio Grande Valley female artists. We are excited to see Ms. Ramos’ curated selections display the talents of the various female artists located in Edinburg and across the valley!

The exhibit will be located at the Dustin M. Sekula Library from June 22nd to August 5th, with an artist discussion happening in conjunction with FridaFest on July 10th at 7 PM at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium located at 200 N. 7thAve.

This event will observe all COVID-19 Safe guidelines to ensure the safety of all in attendance. Masks are encouraged. For more information, contact the City’s Library & Cultural Arts Department at 956-383-6246 or visit the City's Cultural Arts website at www.edinburgarts.com
