IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the IMAS Day of Play: Lowrider Community Day on September 26, 2026, in partnership with The Association of Children's Museums and Nickelodeon. This event encourages families to get active and learn through hands on exploration.
*Volunteers will be placed in areas of most need dependent on volunteer registration.
Shifts: (2.5 hr. shifts)
- 10 am – 12:30 pm (2.5)
- 12:30
pm – 3 pm (2.5)
Volunteer Areas: Instructions for activities below will be provided upon arrival
- McAllen Public Utility Biozone Lab
- Hydraulic Car Challenge Assistant: Take on the challenge of moving a car with a DIY hydraulic system. Visitors will take on different challenges creating movements as a lowrider would do while using a hydraulic system. Volunteer assistants will assist educators as they work with visitors to maneuver and work through the hands on challenges.

Ann Moore Art Studio
- Artistic Airbrush Assistant: Help visitors learn to use airbrush tools as they paint a pre-made 3D car using stencils and airbrush paint. Volunteers will help provide timed sessions for incoming visitors taking part in the activity and help swap out new materials for the airbrush tools.

El Estudio Gallery
- El Estudio Gallery Assistant: El Estudio is full of interactive and engaging hands-on exhibits, from Pitch Slider to Chain Reaction. IMAS is looking for a volunteer to help visitors who may have questions about these exhibits and how they work.

SuperMercado Interactive Exhibit
- SuperMercado Assistant: The new Super Mercado is a fun interactive space for children of various ages. The volunteer assistant will help keep the exhibit tidy by picking up small loose parts in the exhibit and putting them back in their original location.
- Outdoor Courtyard
- Outdoor Games Facilitator: Get active outdoors and facilitate timed games with kids and families. Facilitated games include sack races, three-legged race, and tug of war. Volunteers will gather participants, provide game instructions and referee games.
