McAllen Kids Marathon Kickoff Event and Let's Move! Pep Rally affiliated with McAllen ISD. At the Kickoff, children ages K-8th grades to run (or walk) their first mile in their 26.2-mile marathon journey at the McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. Former New York Giants NFL linebacker Keith Davis is the guest speaker along with former collegiate lineman Clarence Lee. Other guests: State Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa; McAllen Mayor Jim Darling; McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez and Hector Zapata of Telemundo 40.
After the initial Kickoff, children have 18 weeks to walk/run their additional 24 miles. On Jan. 14, 2017, everyone will come together at the McAllen Convention Center to run their Final Mile to receive a finisher's medal.
