Hidalgo County’s Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Division receives CDC funding for planning, capacity and program activities, such as:
• Bio-surveillance plans and monitoring in the event of disease outbreak
• Community Resilience planning to recover from bio-hazard, natural disasters, or public health event
• Medical Countermeasures and Mitigation efforts to protect and vaccinate our entire community should the need ever arise
• Providing essential training and building the capacity of our local key community partners and first responders on Medical Countermeasures and how to plan and operate points of dispensing
• Incident Management plans to assist in any all-hazard situation
• Emergency Public Information and Warning to inform the community and protect the public’s health

What We Do

We work with government agencies, non-profit and faith-based agencies, community partners and volunteers to train, prepare, respond, and recover from disasters. We host and participate in community events such as Operation Border Health Preparedness, the South Texas All-Hazards Conference, training, drills, exercises, and much much more.
Want to learn more about helping your local community in need? Want to learn more about how to help your community respond to disasters? Come on out and explore the world of public health preparedness and be a volunteer with us in events throughout the year. Come and join us in Operation Border Health Preparedness, the largest event of this kind in the country. You'll get to be a part of a great team and experience first-hand that it truly takes a village and that each one of us has a responsibility to our community.  We look forward to hearing from and working with you!
