In 1998,
the Boys & Girls Clubs of Brownsville, Texas was operating a branch serving
youth in rural Los Fresnos. In December 2001, this branch became a 501c3
non-profit organization with its own charter from the Boys & Girls Clubs of
America becoming the Boys & Girls Clubs of Los Fresnos (BGCLF). In August 2025, BGCLF turn into an independent non-profit organization and
became Los Fresnos Educational & Recreation Club (LFERC). LFERC has been
and still is overseen by a Board of Directors comprised of experienced professionals from banking and finance, health and
wellness, and law enforcement.
Since its
inception, the organization has developed a notable legacy of collaboration,
reflecting its dedication to working together with various partners and
community members. LFERC has actively engaged in joint initiatives with local
schools, civic organizations, and recreational groups. These collaborations
have helped to foster a strong sense of community and shared purpose, enhancing
educational and recreational opportunities for residents of Los Fresnos.
For over two decades regardless of the
organization's name, LFERC had been the "same-club, different-name"
kind of place that serves local families by providing a safe haven for children
to participate in a variety of activities such as fitness, sports, arts, games, and more.
Mission:
Our organization's mission is to empower all young individuals, particularly those facing the greatest challenges, to achieve their full
potential as productive, compassionate, and responsible members of society.
