Safe Haven for Kids/Emergency Shelter
It is with great excitement that we announce the opening of a much needed emergency shelter for abused children in the Rio Grande Valley. Safe Haven for Kids will operate as a housing facility mostly for low to moderate income levels of children newborn to 10 years of age. These children have been removed from their home by Child Protective Services due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Safe Haven for Kids will be a safe, loving, home environment for children to stay while awaiting placement with a family member, a foster home or other adequate arrangements are made.
Over 700 children in Hidalgo County alone are removed from their homes each year. These vulnerable children are often sent to shelters outside the valley, to San Antonio, Corpus Christi or Laredo. Safe Haven for Kids is opening its doors to allow children to continue their lives with minimal disruption.
