Who We Are
We are R.O.C.A...the Revival of Cultural Arts and our home is at The Carlotta K. Petrina Cultural Center. Located near historic downtown Brownsville. The Cultural Center serves to promote the arts to the local community. Our mission is to provide opportunities for the community to experience art, music and cultural events with an emphasis on arts education for children of our community.
The building itself was built at the turn of the century (1906) for M.H. Cross who operated a wholesale merchandise business. The building has also operated as a bakery and hotel.
Today, The Carlotta K. Petrina Cultural Center offers a place where local and international artists (painters, singers, writers, musicians, photographers) can showcase their work. The center also holds weekly piano, guitar, violin & cello classes with scheduled monthly concerts.
What We Do
Our mission is to create a bridge that will remove the gap between local families and the opportunity to experience Art, Music and Culture in ways that will help enhance growth and revitalize our community. R.O.C.A. offers creative and professional workshops that are open to the public. We direct our efforts towards creating a space that will engage our community and form a connection between art, music, culture and social justice issues. We also teach ART and MUSIC to the local youth and children, especially those who live near the Cultural Center. This area is one of the poorest in the city. R.O.C.A has an extensive program and your partnership would be greatly appreciated..
