Who We Are
Frontera Audubon Society has been a 501©3 non-profit organization in Weslaco since 1978. The 15-acre site is Downtown Weslaco’s urban nature preserve, located at 12th Street and Texas Blvd. Visitors from all over the world enjoy a 1-mile trail that runs through a native Tamaulipan thorn scrub forest deemed “The Thicket,” wetlands, Sabal Palm grove, a butterfly garden, and an historic orchard. The habitat attracts hundreds of species of native and migrating birds and other wildlife such as butterflies, snakes, and reptiles. It is also home to the Texas Historic Landmark, the Skaggs House.
What We Do
Frontera Audubon seeks to showcase the connection between environmental conservation, historic preservation, and the reciprocal relationship between humans and wildlife through educational programs, activities, and exhibits.
