Who We Are
The Museum of South Texas History is the premier resource dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the rich cultural and historical heritage of the entire South Texas and Northeastern Mexico region. Originally founded in 1967 as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum, our institution has deep roots in the community. In 2003, we significantly expanded our facilities and changed our name to reflect our commitment to telling the complete story of the broader region's history, from its prehistoric origins through the Spanish colonial era, the ranching traditions, and the modern agricultural and urban development of the Rio Grande Valley. We are proud to serve as a vital educational and cultural hub for our visitors and researchers.
