Who We Are

Aurora House Foundation

Aurora is the dawn, the light of a new day.  Aurora House is the light for those who are approaching the end of life.  The light which offers dignity, compassion and respect.

Aurora House Foundation is a licensed Special Care Facility which provides compassionate care for people in the final stages of life at no cost to the patient.  This special house offers love and compassion through trained volunteers and a staff of Caregivers.  Quality care is provided in a home-like atmosphere, with clean and comfortable, private rooms.

The idea for Aurora House began as a dream of Dr. Rafael Rodriguez, founding Director.  "When I was Medical Director of a local Hospice, I visited a lot of patients and their families in their homes.  Sometimes I saw patients in the process of dying who were living in extreme poverty.  They had not been bathed, they were lying in dirty sheets, and they hadn't eaten for days, because they didn't have the resources or families who could take care of them.  We were taking those patients to McAllen, to the Comfort House, but in the same time we were separating the patients from their families and friends,"  said Dr. Rodriguez.  "We needed a place in the Mid-Valley area where families could visit so patients wouldn't feel abandoned."  Through a grassroots effort, volunteers were able to purchase and remodel a home for four patients in south Weslaco.  The first patient was admitted in June of 2007.

Since then we have added an additional 6 rooms and an Educational Building (Aurora House Center for Palliative Care).

Two more room were added during the Summer of 2016 as of now we have 10 rooms to better serve our community.

Volunteers are a blessing to Aurora House and its patients.

Resident's needs are always a top priority.  Being with residents and family members can be a blessing to them and to you.

If you are feeling like you just have to do something, you can still be a blessing by helping in varies other areas.

"Any decent society cares for its most vulnerable members, including children and the elderly."
