Palmer Drug Abuse Program - Mcallen

Who We Are

The Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free, professional, and confidential support to youth, adults, and families affected by alcohol and other drug use. Since 1988, PDAP has served the Hidalgo County community by offering counseling, recovery support, and drug-free social activities that promote healthy lifestyles and lasting recovery. Rooted in the principles of a 12-step recovery program, PDAP creates a safe and welcoming environment where individuals can find support, build meaningful connections, develop coping skills, and work toward a substance-free future. Through counseling, peer support, family involvement, and community outreach, PDAP is committed to helping individuals and families overcome the challenges of substance use and achieve positive, lasting change.

What We Do

The Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) is a free, nonprofit 12-step recovery program that has served Hidalgo County since 1988. PDAP provides professional and confidential counseling services to youth, adults, and families affected by alcohol and other drug use. Through counseling, peer support, and recovery-focused programming, PDAP actively reaches out to individuals and families in need of assistance and support. Young people today face increasing opportunities to experiment with alcohol and drugs while having fewer opportunities to participate in positive, drug-free social activities. PDAP offers a safe and welcoming environment where youth can develop a sense of belonging, share their struggles, build healthy relationships, and learn about the recovery process. Participants are encouraged to spend time at PDAP outside of school or work, where they can socialize, participate in organized activities, and enjoy a sober, supportive community. PDAP's recovery model is built on a strong foundation of the 12-step program, emphasizing total abstinence from alcohol and other drugs. With the guidance of licensed counselors and the support of recovery peer groups, participants develop the coping skills, confidence, and support systems needed to overcome challenges and build healthy, fulfilling lives in recovery. Services are provided free of charge and include individual counseling, family counseling, support group meetings, and drug-free social activities throughout the year.
