Practice Mercy is a faith-based organization serving extremely vulnerable women and children mainly along the Texas-Mexico border. We believe empowering immigrants and indigenous families through faith can help restore hope and dignity among these migrants in their dire circumstances.
Our ministry is deeply relational and centered on giving hope to the most vulnerable through a holistic approach. We provide critical supplies and spiritual support through prayer, building relationships across a diverse immigrant community and promoting advocacy and awareness of their lived experiences to the American Church and broader society.
What We Do
Ministry Work
Practice Mercy staff members go from tent to tent forming deep friendships by praying with and encouraging families. With every interaction, we strive to restore hope and dignity by adding a sense of community to their lives.
Prayer Intervention
Violence traumatizes many of the children in these makeshift camps. Much of that trauma follows them from their home countries and plagues them while they are forced to wait in inhumane conditions. We are aware of rape victims living in these camps or city squares; our staff provides spiritual support and basic counseling for young girls and women regardless of their background. We are praying for hope and healing, and pray for the comfort and peace of Jesus during these trying times. When possible, we refer these individuals to different organizations for professional help and connect them to particular shelters.
Distributing Supplies
We visit families personally, tent by tent, asking about their personal needs, health, and hygiene. The items we provide vary but we distribute basic necessities such as clothing, footwear, vitamins, and toiletries, as well as cover medical expenses thanks to your charitable gifts.
Relocation Assistance
As migrants are allowed to cross the border, we assist with the process and partner with organizations serving in that capacity. The transition from Mexico to the United States is usually scary and uninformed. Because of collaborations and partnerships, we can provide temporary accommodations, help with travel when needed, and assist with other immediate needs.
Advocacy
We love to share the stories of our friends at the border and will use any and all platforms to raise awareness of the direct affects that regulations or policies like MPP or Title 42 have on human rights and dignity of sojourners. If we can, we will reach out to known lawyers who work pro bono that may have time to assist our immigrant friends.
