We’re excited to invite volunteers to support the Downtown Renaissance Master Plan during First Friday in Downtown Brownsville on September 5, 2025, from 7 PM – 9 PM.

This plan will serve as a roadmap for the future of Downtown Brownsville, and your help in gathering community feedback is vital. First Friday, created by downtown business owners, is the perfect opportunity to connect with the community while celebrating the restaurants, shops, and nightlife that make our downtown vibrant.

As a volunteer, you will:

The First Friday event runs from 7 PM – 11 PM, but volunteers are only needed from 7 PM – 9 PM. Afterwards, you’re encouraged to stay, enjoy the evening, support our local businesses, and experience live music from Del Castillo.

IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to give back to their community by assisting at Beyond the Exhibits: Outreach at the Pavilion event on September 20, 2025, at the Veterans Memorial Pavilion community center in Mission.

This free admission outreach event, supported by Hidalgo County, is a collaborative event with IMAS, the National Butterfly Center, Mission Historical Museum, and Museum of South Texas History. IMAS is seeking volunteers to help welcome the Mission and neighboring communities to a family friendly community day full of activities, games and more.

Volunteer Shifts (2): 10 am – 12 pm & 12 pm – 2 pm

ACTIVITY NEEDS

IMAS Watercolor Station:

Volunteer with IMAS Educators at the watercolor art station. Volunteers will assist visitors by distributing materials and keeping a tidy workspace for incoming visitors. Volunteers will also be assisting educators by providing new water cups and paper for new works of art.

IMAS Snap circuit Station:

Snap Circuits are a fun and easy way to learn about electricity and simple circuits. For electricity to flow, there must be a power source and a conductive closed path for the current to flow through. Volunteers will assist visitors by providing instructions for Snap Circuit use and explaining how it works. Volunteers will also be assisting educators by keeping snap circuits parts organized and tidy for incoming visitors.  

National Butterfly Center Seed Bomb Station:

Seed bombs are a fun way to help promote pollinators near you! Get your hands on soil and mud and mix in some seeds from various flowering plants. After your seed bomb dries, throw in your yard, garden or planter and water! Volunteer with the National Butterfly Center in their outdoor activity station and assist by helping visitors create their very own seed bombs to take home. Volunteers will provide seed bomb supplies to incoming visitors and provide instruction as needed.

National Butterfly Center Mariposa Loteria:

Loteria meets Monarchs in this fun family game. Volunteers will assist the National Butterfly Center by distributing materials, calling cards and distributing prizes to the winners!

Mission Historical Museum Activity Station:

Volunteer with the Mission Historical Museum at their activity center. Volunteers will assist the Mission Historical Museum by distributing materials and supplies as needed and help keep a tidy workspace for incoming visitors.

Opportunity Description: Join Buckner’s Missions program in being the hands and feet of Jesus by helping build a safe and secure home for the Garcia family. This workday will focus on installing insulation and sheetrock under the guidance of our Construction Coordinator, Pedro Gonzalez. All tools, materials, and instruction will be provided. Light snacks and refreshments will also be available for volunteers.

About the Garcia Family: Monica is a single mother to her 16-year-old son, Victor. Despite working hard in housekeeping and selling items for extra income, their home of over 20 years has deteriorated severely. Through Buckner’s Family Hope Center and Healthy Housing Missions program, Monica and Victor are on their way to a stable and secure home — and you can help make it happen.

The Friends of the Wildlife Corridor (FWC) is seeking volunteers of all skill levels—whether you’re simply enthusiastic about nature and conservation, an expert birder, or a skilled kayaker, there’s a place for you.

We are seeking volunteers interested in learning about our adoption process and helping our furry friends get into their furever homes.

PVAS will have one adoption specialist at Petsmart every weekend and every other Sunday at Petco from 11:30am - 5:30 pm. They can use a hand to help set up/break down for the event and support them in engaging with the community and helping close the deal on adoptions of an interested pet.

Communal cat rooms allow you to enjoy the attention of multiple kitties. But cats also need care, like having clean litter boxes, fresh water and food. Members of the kitty committee commit to taking care of the cat room duties one day per week. That means cleaning litter, ensuring fresh water and kibble are available and dispensing canned food. It also helps to sweep the floor to provide a clean environment for the cats to play. Then is play time. You can use toys and laser pointers to encourage exercise and play, or you can enjoy the cuddle cats that like to be held and loved on. Most of the kitties really like positive attention and reward you with plenty of purrs!

BARCC volunteer duties include cleaning and feeding animals, grooming and exercising animals and attending outreach events. Volunteers working alongside our team are given thorough instructions on how to properly clean kennels, feed, and care for the animals.

Join us on Saturday mornings as we do land stewardship projects for Quinta Mazatlan. Volunteers will get to learn more about local ecology, sustainable landscaping practices, RGV biodiversity, and more, all while giving back to the ecosystems that support us.

The Community Council of the Rio Grande Valley is needing volunteers at their office located in: 3516 E. Expressway 83, Suite 5 Weslaco, Texas 78596.

Volunteers will respond to emergency/disaster related calls. They will provide emergency/disaster information and referrals to the general public by softphone (online telephone), and are responsible to document the referrals provided and client’s demographics. All equipment needed for calls will be provided. This will be in an office space setting. 

COVID-19 Protocols: To maintain a safe environment for all volunteers we require the use of a face mask for anyone in the office (face mask not provided). There will be a sanitation station were hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray/wipes will be available for volunteers. Volunteer's workstation will be disinfected before and after every shift.

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross Shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete task necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service associates supports the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Cinderella Pet Rescue currently only has one social media platform (Facebook) and a website. We need to get other platforms (es. TikTok, Instagram, etc.) established to promote the pets, the needs and the agency. The goal of more adoptions, more volunteers and more funds to support the animals should be easier with the addition of additional active social media platforms.

Get your exercise while you exercise a dog! Lots of great dogs need to get out of their pens so they can enjoy getting to stretch their legs and smell nature. They need to spend time socializing with new people and learning how to walk politely on a leash in order to prepare them for adoption. Some of the dogs would enjoy jogging as well. Some days, if you don't want to do a lot of walking, you can take the dog(s) to the play-yards where you can throw a ball or let them run around and entertain themselves. A variety of dogs are ready to show you around the property and show you their terrific personalities.

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

As a Child Advocate, you commit to:

Making Life Disciples (MLD) is a 12-session course that equips you with a gospel-centered, holistic, and non-political approach to caring for those considering abortion.

LIFE Mentors are responsible for serving families who are facing unplanned pregnancies by providing confidential mentorship and guidance. Mentorship can be provided one-on-one and/or through small groups.

LIFE Mentors are expected to minister to families on topics pertaining to abstinence encouragement, abortion education & awareness, infant loss/grief, all while encouraging salvation and guidance for a strong relationship with Jesus Christ.

Volunteer Requirements:

1.     Be a committed Christian and member in good standing of an area church, who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord;

2.     Exhibit strong commitment and dedication to the sanctity of all human life;

3.     Agree with and be willing to uphold the Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and policies of PRC;

4.     Have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent;

5.     Exhibit strong skills in interpersonal communication;

6.     Exhibit strong listening skills;

7.     Ability to keep information confidential;

8.     Be able to carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision.

9.     Experience in counseling, mentoring, and teaching (preferred)

10.    Bachelor’s degree (or pursuit of a degree) in Social Work/Psychology (preferred)

French, Spanish, and speakers of other languages needed for document translation to assist individual's work authorization applications. 

When individuals submit documents to the court and other adjudicators, all of the documents must be presented in English.  We launched Remote Translator Program in February 2021 as an effort to extend our ability to provide translation assistance to the individuals we serve. These documents may include things that will be presented before immigration court and/or other agencies, such as identity documents and declarations. 

Work may be done remotely.  Turnaround time for a document will vary.  

Educate your community about Alzheimer's & other dementia by delivering presentations & answering questions.  Opportunities are either virtual or in-person. The Treasurer Committee helps ensure that every dollar raised is used wisely and reported transparently. Their work directly supports our ability to serve hundreds of families each year through our programs, such as toy drives, community meals, and holiday assistance. The committee’s efforts strengthen the foundation that allows our outreach to grow. The Treasurer Committee within Operation Christmas RGV plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and transparency of our nonprofit. This committee works closely with our Treasurer to assist with budgeting, record-keeping, fundraising logistics, and financial reporting.

- Basic understanding of financial organization (no formal accounting required)

- Comfortable with spreadsheets and digital communication

Duties:

- Assist with monthly financial reviews and documentation

- Help track income and expenses for events and programs

- Support grant reporting and fundraising documentation

We are ideally seeking 3 to 5 dedicated volunteers to be part of a small, consistent team. Volunteers should be 18 years or older due to the nature of the responsibilities. The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month.

Most of the work is flexible and remote, though occasional in-person meetings may be scheduled as needed.

Operation Christmas RGV is looking for passionate and creative individuals to join our Press Office Team as volunteers! We're expanding our media presence and need your talent to help us share our mission of spreading hope and joy across the Rio Grande Valley.

As a volunteer, you are not just a helper but an integral part of our team. Your role in our education and outreach efforts, whether it's labeling brochures, bundling condoms, creating promotional buttons, or organizing supplies, is invaluable and greatly appreciated. 

Most volunteer work is done at our administration office, 916 E. Hackberry, Suite A, McAllen, Monday through Friday. We also offer limited volunteer opportunities to help staff with outreach at the UTRGV Edinburg campus; please let us know by email if you are interested.

Access Esperanza Clinics is the largest and oldest sexual and reproductive health agency along the South Texas border. We're 60 years strong and serve over 15,000 adults and teens annually. We offer health check-ups, birth control, STD testing/treatment, and other preventive health services. Most patients pay little to nothing for their care. The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

As a Child Advocate, you commit to:

Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed.

Every day, the Red Cross responds to an average of 7fires a day in the Texas Gulf Coast. These fires are responded to by teams of volunteers who go and meet the family, within 2 hours, any time night or day.
