Volunteers will assist with the Torneo de Ortografía (Spanish Spelling Bee) for elementary, middle school, high school, and university students.

Volunteer duties include:

Greeting and checking in participants, families, and guests

Ushering students between competition rooms and waiting areas

Assisting judges with room setup, materials distribution, and general support

Helping maintain an organized and quiet competition environment

Providing directions and assistance to families and community organizations on-site

Supporting event staff with logistical needs as they arise

Operation Christmas RGV is seeking volunteers to support our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley. Volunteers will assist clients by preparing accurate tax returns while following IRS VITA guidelines.

Prepare basic federal and state tax returns

Interview clients to collect tax and income information

Apply tax law accurately under IRS VITA standards

Protect client confidentiality and sensitive information

Provide professional and respectful service to community members

Some experience with tax preparation or tax law is required

Examples include:

Prior VITA participation

Accounting, finance, or tax-related coursework

Professional or internship experience preparing taxes

Strong attention to detail

Willingness to complete required VITA training and certification

IRS VITA Certification (Provided when enrolled to volunteer) 

Accounting, finance, business, or related major

Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Hands-on experience applying tax and accounting knowledge

The Greatest American Cleanup (GAC) is the biggest cleanup event Keep McAllen Beautiful hosts in the City of McAllen. Every year hundreds of volunteers gather to help cleanup McAllen streets, Hike & Bike trails, railroad tracks, parks, and schools. The Greatest American Cleanup will take place Saturday, April 11, 2026. Everyone is treated to a free t-shirt, food and fun. Look forward to seeing you there!

Help us fight hunger by volunteering in one of our main stations:

Senior Box Program: Prepare boxes of nutritious food to improve the health of elderly individuals.

Product Recovery: Inspect, sort, and clean products received from local food drives and retail donations.

Operation Christmas RGV is seeking volunteers to support our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley. Volunteers will assist clients by preparing accurate tax returns while following IRS VITA guidelines.

Prepare basic federal and state tax returns

Interview clients to collect tax and income information

Apply tax law accurately under IRS VITA standards

Protect client confidentiality and sensitive information

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is looking for volunteer Child Advocates. We are in need of bilingual, Spanish speaking, volunteers in the McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi, TX and surrounding areas.

Make a difference in the life of an unaccompanied immigrant child by volunteering to serve as a Child Advocate. A Child Advocate is an adult who volunteers to spend time with and advocate on behalf of an individual unaccompanied immigrant child while he or she is subject to deportation proceedings. We get to know prospective volunteers through an initial screening interview, an application and reference check, and at the required two-day training. Once assigned to an individual child, each Child Advocate receives continuing training, support, and supervision from the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

As a Child Advocate, you commit to:

The Treasurer Committee helps ensure that every dollar raised is used wisely and reported transparently. Their work directly supports our ability to serve hundreds of families each year through our programs, such as toy drives, community meals, and holiday assistance. The committee’s efforts strengthen the foundation that allows our outreach to grow. The Treasurer Committee within Operation Christmas RGV plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and transparency of our nonprofit. This committee works closely with our Treasurer to assist with budgeting, record-keeping, fundraising logistics, and financial reporting.

Requirements:

- Basic understanding of financial organization (no formal accounting required)

- Comfortable with spreadsheets and digital communication

- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality

- Assist with monthly financial reviews and documentation

We are ideally seeking 3 to 5 dedicated volunteers to be part of a small, consistent team. Volunteers should be 18 years or older due to the nature of the responsibilities. The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month.

Most of the work is flexible and remote, though occasional in-person meetings may be scheduled as needed.

Cinderella Pet Rescue currently only has one social media platform (Facebook) and a website. We need to get other platforms (es. TikTok, Instagram, etc.) established to promote the pets, the needs and the agency. The goal of more adoptions, more volunteers and more funds to support the animals should be easier with the addition of additional active social media platforms.

French, Spanish, and speakers of other languages needed for document translation to assist individual's work authorization applications. 

When individuals submit documents to the court and other adjudicators, all of the documents must be presented in English.  We launched Remote Translator Program in February 2021 as an effort to extend our ability to provide translation assistance to the individuals we serve. These documents may include things that will be presented before immigration court and/or other agencies, such as identity documents and declarations. 

Work may be done remotely.  Turnaround time for a document will vary.

Communal cat rooms allow you to enjoy the attention of multiple kitties. But cats also need care, like having clean litter boxes, fresh water and food. Members of the kitty committee commit to taking care of the cat room duties one day per week. That means cleaning litter, ensuring fresh water and kibble are available and dispensing canned food. It also helps to sweep the floor to provide a clean environment for the cats to play. Then is play time. You can use toys and laser pointers to encourage exercise and play, or you can enjoy the cuddle cats that like to be held and loved on. Most of the kitties really like positive attention and reward you with plenty of purrs!

BARCC volunteer duties include cleaning and feeding animals, grooming and exercising animals and attending outreach events. Volunteers working alongside our team are given thorough instructions on how to properly clean kennels, feed, and care for the animals.

The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross Shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete task necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service associates supports the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Get your exercise while you exercise a dog! Lots of great dogs need to get out of their pens so they can enjoy getting to stretch their legs and smell nature. They need to spend time socializing with new people and learning how to walk politely on a leash in order to prepare them for adoption. Some of the dogs would enjoy jogging as well. Some days, if you don't want to do a lot of walking, you can take the dog(s) to the play-yards where you can throw a ball or let them run around and entertain themselves. Red Cross volunteers who take on in-person volunteer activities must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Virtual opportunities available for those who are not vaccinated or who do not wish to complete the documentation process.

Every day, the Red Cross responds to an average of 7fires a day in the Texas Gulf Coast. These fires are responded to by teams of volunteers who go and meet the family, within 2 hours, any time night or day.

How do these amazing volunteers get called out? By YOU - our newest Disaster Action Team Duty Officer. 

Purpose: Ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional Disaster Action Team (DAT) responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program either at the chapter/territory or region level.

Time Commitment: At least one 12 hour on-call shift per week. Coverage of the night shift (6p-6a) and weekend shifts are CRITICALLY needed. Initially several hours on online training will be required in order to understand the role and the services provided.

Training: Training will be a mix of online and on the job. Duty Officers will need to go on a handful fire calls on scene to understand that experience. Once training is complete, you will not need to go on scene - unless you want to.

Assist Red Cross in delivering mission by alleviating human suffering caused by disasters. Primary responses include single family and multi family fires.

The role of you - the Sheltering Volunteer - is to serve as a member of a temporary work unit on a disaster relief operation to successfully complete their assigned areas of responsibility on a disaster relief operation. They ensure safe sheltering at a single shelter throughout the cycle of the disaster.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteers are invited to come to the STJDA Office located at 313 W Nolana Ave, McAllen, TX, Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM to help with a variety of tasks that help support the organization. No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.
