IMAS is looking for friendly and outgoing volunteers to help facilitate hands on cultural activities and games during our Lunar New Year Festival, Year of the Horse! Dependent on volunteer registration, volunteers will be placed in areas dependent on the most need.
Activities:
- Discovery Pavilion: Cultural Arts, Crafts & Games
- Celebrate the year of the horse by exploring traditional crafts, calligraphy, games
- Origami
- Marble Board Game
- Chopsticks Challenge
- Paper Cut Craft Activity
- Celebrate the year of the horse by exploring traditional crafts, calligraphy, games
- MPU Biozone: Korean Drum Paper Craft
- Help IMAS education staff facilitate hands-on activity by providing materials and guidance will also keep a clean workspace for incoming visitors.
- Science On a Sphere: Chinese Zodiac Bingo
- Facilitate Chinese Zodiac Bingo in the Science On a Sphere theatre. Volunteers will distribute bingo cards, call out cards, confirm winners and provide small prizes.
- Ann Moore Art Studio: Year of the Horse printmaking Postcard
- Assist IMAS Staff and UTRGV art students in printmaking activity by assisting with cleaning of printmaking tools and distributing materials as needed.
- Industrial Lab: Drop in Chinese Calligraphy & Fish Paper Lanterns
- Assist in calligraphy station from 10 am – 12 pm by providing supplies and assistance to UTRGV professor, Dr. Li as they guide visitors in their calligraphy session. Volunteers will also assist in the Fish paper lantern craft from 1 – 5 pm. Volunteers will provide materials and guidance will also keeping a clean workspace for incoming visitors.
- Breezeway: Calligraphy Station with Pierre Lu
- Assist Pierre Lu at the Calligraphy in Characters station by helping Pierre with materials and line management for incoming visitors.
- Fine Art Galleries: Year of the Horse Puppet & Tea Tasting from 1:30 - 3:30 PM
- Assist IMAS staff with the horse puppet activity by providing guidance to visitors who may need help in completing the hands-on activity. Volunteers will also assist in the Tea Tasting area by preparing tea kettles with tea bags and electric kettles, pouring tea into small portion cups and preparing snacks on plates with napkins.
- Assist the IMAS staff by helping pick up objects in the early childhood Seed to Table exhibit and assist in the galleries by politely asking visitors not to eat or drink in the fine art galleries. Exception: Tea Tasting from 1:30 - 3:30
