IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the 2025 Día de los Muertos Festival & Market at the Museum on October 11, from 10 am to 5 pm. Volunteers will help IMAS Education team facilitate and assist in hands on activity areas.
Celebrate and discover the Dia De Los Muertos holiday
this October at IMAS with Family and Friends! Bring your loved ones in spirit
and honor their memory as you enjoy performances, food, arts and crafts and
much more!
Shifts: (3.5 hr. shifts) :
- 10 am – 1:30 pm (3.5)
- 1:30 pm – 5 pm (3.5)
***Registered Volunteers will be placed in areas based on the most need dependent on registrations.
VOLUNTEER AREAS:
1.
Art Studio – Piñata Mural Assistants
Description: Assist IMAS Educators and visitors
in this community art project with visiting artist Josue Ramirez. Together,
visitors will contribute to a piñata mural by applying strips of tissue paper. Assist
participants by ensuring they have the right color tissue paper for their mural
section and provide glue sticks as needed.
2.
Industrial Lab – Sugar Skull Assistants
Description: Assist in the Industrial Lab as
a Sugar Skull assistant. Ensure visitors show their receipt for their additional
sugar skull activity and help clean up activity tables for incoming participants. Participants will
decorate their sugar skull with colorful frosting bags and sprinkles.
3.
Science On a Sphere – Loteria Facilitators
Description: Assist IMAS Educators in the Loteria room by
providing visitors with cards, coins and beans. Assistants will help call out
cards along with IMAS Educator, check winner cards and give out sugar skull
prizes.
4.
MPU Biozone Lab – Oja Lata Tin Art Assistants
Description: Oja Lata is a folk art that uses tin to
create colorful embossed pieces of art. Volunteers will assist IMAS Educators in the Biozone
Lab by providing participants with tin squares, embossing tools and markers.
Assistants will also provide help to participants by showing them how to use their
embossing tool.
5.
Discovery Pavilion – Scratch Art Masks & Butterfly
Craft, Loved Ones Remembrance Wall Facilitators
Description: Assist in the Discovery Pavilion at two craft
stations, Scratch Art Masks and Loved Ones Remembrance Wall. Visitors will use
wooden scratch sticks to create colorful patterns on their calavera masks. and cut and color their monarch butterfly to add to the Loved
Ones Remembrance Wall. Assist participants by providing stretchy cord for their calavera
masks and glue dots for their butterflies.
6.
Art Galleries – Calavera Poems Assistant
Description: Calavera Poems can be added to altars as a way to remember our
loved ones through poetry. Participants will write short poems for their loved ones
such as a grandparent or pet. Assist participants by providing visitors with
paper and pens and ensuring pens are kept at the activity tables.
7.
Art Galleries – Gallery Monitors
Description: Help IMAS by ensuring visitors are not
entering gallery entrances with food or drink. Trash cans are located at all
entrances for disposal.
