Want to impact residents in Hidalgo and Starr Counties?
Support United Way of South Texas through its VITA Program (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program) to assist low-to-moderate-income families earning a yearly household income of $65,000 or less to receive FREE tax preparation services.
Specific Volunteer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must attend all VITA trainings and take 3 certification exams to be certified to the advanced level.
- All volunteers must be trained and IRS-certified before volunteering at a VITA site.
- Volunteers must follow Site Requirements; print, and sign the Form 13615 Volunteer Standards of Conduct and take it to the VITA site where you volunteer.
- VITA volunteers will serve as “ Tax Prepares,” under the supervision of two Site Coordinators.
- Volunteers can Greet and check in VITA Clients, make phone calls, and collect client information.
- Depending on the level of certification. Volunteers can Prepare and review tax returns.

Volunteer Experience and Skills:
■ No skills or experience required.
■ Computer Literate
■ Follow the Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Site Requirements
■ Free IRS training and materials are provided.
■ Become IRS Certified to volunteer at certain VITA sites.
■ Flexible hours to volunteer.
