Volunteer: Mass Care: Sheltering Service Associate

This training opportunity is open to volunteers that would like to serve in American Red Cross shelters. 

The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Available to sign up for shifts on consecutive days (shifts may be 4, 8 or 12 hours long) Willing to complete 3.5 hours of virtual self-paced training required for position

Responsibilities vary depending on assignment.

May include providing support to one or more of the following areas within the shelter: reception registration dormitory feeding information supply Provide excellent customer service to clients Complete the required virtual self-paced training (3.5 hours of training total)

Volunteer: Virtual Disaster Action Team (DAT)

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officer ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional DAT responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program either at the chapter/territory or region level. The following are requirements:  

1. Reliable access to a computer, internet, and a phone. 2). Comfortable using and learning new technology; 3) Commitment to use RC and RC respond system as needed; 4) Able to prioritize multiple task in complex; 5) Must be 18 years or older; 6) strong written and verbal communication skills; 7) ability to speak clearly on the phone; 8) Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies

The Community Council of the Rio Grande Valley is needing volunteers at their office located in: 3516 E. Expressway 83, Suite 5 Weslaco, Texas 78596.

Volunteers will respond to emergency/disaster related calls. They will provide emergency/disaster information and referrals to the general public by softphone (online telephone), and are responsible to document the referrals provided and client’s demographics. All equipment needed for calls will be provided. This will be in an office space setting. 

COVID-19 Protocols: To maintain a safe environment for all volunteers we require the use of a face mask for anyone in the office (face mask not provided). There will be a sanitation station were hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray/wipes will be available for volunteers. Volunteer's workstation will be disinfected before and after every shift.
