Volunteer: Girl Scouts Day - Activity & Guest Support

IMAS is looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to assist at the Girl Scouts Day event on June 13, 2026 from 10 AM – 1 PM. This community event welcomes Girl Scouts from the Rio Grande Valley to enjoy a variety of hands-on activities related to various Badges from the 2025-2026 workshop season. Badge related activities will be inspired by Special Agent, Detective, Craft & Tinker, Outdoor Art, Space Science Researcher and Art & Design Badges. Volunteers will provide museum visitors will assist IMAS Education staff in activity areas. Duties includes distributing materials, assisting with instruction and helping keep a tidy workplace for incoming visitors.

*Volunteers will be placed in activity areas based on priority needs and volunteer registration. *

Shift: (3 hrs., 15 minutes) - 9:45 am – 1:00 pm

- Craft & Tinker – DIY flashlight
Help visitors make their own DIY flashlight as they learn how to create a simple circuit with popsicle sticks and a coin battery.

- Outdoor Art – Clay Nature Impressions
Guide visitors in the art making process of clay nature impressions. Visitors will create their own small portion of salt dough clay and will then imprint a collection of plants, leaves, or shells to take home.

- Art & Design – Collage Button Making Station
Get Artsy and create some wearable swag! Volunteers will assist visitors on steps to making their button! Create the button artwork and then use the button machine to create the final piece!

- Special Agent & Detective – Fingerprint Analysis
No fingerprint is the same! Volunteers will assist visitors as they learn to record their fingerprints with ink pads. Learn about common fingerprint patterns as you create your own fingerprint booklet!
