The Community Council of the Rio Grande Valley is needing volunteers at their office located in: 3516 E. Expressway 83, Suite 5 Weslaco, Texas 78596.

Volunteers will respond to emergency/disaster related calls. They will provide emergency/disaster information and referrals to the general public by softphone (online telephone), and are responsible to document the referrals provided and client’s demographics. All equipment needed for calls will be provided. This will be in an office space setting. 

COVID-19 Protocols: To maintain a safe environment for all volunteers we require the use of a face mask for anyone in the office (face mask not provided). There will be a sanitation station were hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray/wipes will be available for volunteers. Volunteer's workstation will be disinfected before and after every shift.

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross Shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete task necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service associates supports the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

Store/Warehouse hours: 9:00 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.

 - Come to our Family Store and help us clean and tidy our space. Tasks include hanging up clothes, dusting, filling our shoe shelves and bookshelves, cleaning windows, etc.

Come to our warehouse and help us sort and organize donated goods for our Family Store. Tasks include unloading donated goods from donors' vehicles, carrying boxes, and sorting.

This training opportunity is open to volunteers that would like to serve in American Red Cross shelters. 

The Red Cross is offering a 4-hour shelter training for those interested in becoming Shelter Volunteers. Join fellow Texans and prepare to support victims of disaster in Red Cross Shelters. Your help can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

As we plan to support people and communities across Texas and Louisiana ahead of the inclement weather approaching the gulf coast this week we need all the support we can get, and that's including you!

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officer ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional DAT responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program either at the chapter/territory or region level. The following are requirements:  

1. Reliable access to a computer, internet, and a phone. 2). Comfortable using and learning new technology; 3) Commitment to use RC and RC respond system as needed; 4) Able to prioritize multiple task in complex; 5) Must be 18 years or older; 6) strong written and verbal communication skills; 7) ability to speak clearly on the phone; 8) Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies

Come to our Soup Kitchen and help us feed individuals and families in need. We could use your help prepping food, serving, and cleaning...

Kitchen hours:                   7:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M.

We do need 3- 4 days advance notice that hours will be requested due to offsite locations.
