Mental Health, Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Conference
May 13-14, 2016
The goal of the conference is to engage our professional healthcare providers, indigenous healers, community health workers and community residents in a dialogue to exchange ideas, explore approaches, and enhance their knowledge about the importance of the delivery of prevention and treatment services within a cultural, holistic and interdisciplinary framework. It will also include efforts being made by the UTRGV School of Medicine to create awareness about the substance use and HIV/AIDS problems affecting our community and the prevention efforts that are being made to educate young adults both on campus and the community. The conference also wants to address the issue of stigma often associated with seeking treatment for mental health and HIV/AIDS.
