Who We Are
Rio Grande Valley Humane Society (RGVHS) is a non-profit 501(c)3 animal shelter and adoption center serving the community of the Rio Grande Valley. We provide homeless animals with shelter and care while working to find them new homes. RGVHS serves more than 6,000 animals each year, brought in by municipal animal control officers and surrendered by local residents. All pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered (or scheduled for spay/neuter) prior to adoption.
What We Do
The Humane Society of Harlingen contracts with the City of Harlingen and the City of Palm Valley for animal services, taking in approximately 6,000 animals each year, and we serve the Rio Grande Valley through various community initiatives like a low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic, and a Pet Food Pantry. HSH accepts stray and surrendered companion animals from the municipalities who contract our services regardless of age, health, or breed, making us the largest open-intake facility in Cameron County, and one of the largest in the Rio Grande Valley.
