Who We Are
Sunshine Haven is a 20-year-old nonprofit organization started by the First Registered Nurse of Brownsville, TX-- Mrs. Lois del Castillo. We operate in a licensed State of Texas "Special Care Facility" and are the only "Comfort Home" in Cameron County. This means that we are the only agency that cares for the terminally ill of Cameron County without charging anyone - not the patient, their families, or insurance. We survive off donations and grants. We focus on providing the highest quality of life for our residents and we are held to HIPAA, protecting the identities of our Residents/Patients.
What We Do
Sunshine Haven, Inc is a 20-year-old nonprofit organization that provides compassionate end-of-life care to individuals with a terminal diagnosis. We provide 24/7 care in our facility in our Angel Wing, the atmosphere is homelike and Caregivers are highly trained. Our services are completely free; we do not charge families, the individual, or insurance. We survive off Donations and Grants. There are 13 Caregivers (some are Certified Nurse Aids, others are highly trained by our organization) who work around the clock to care for our Residents. There are 8 rooms for us to care for 8 people at a time and their families. We cook, feed, administer medications, shift the patient, provide hygiene care, help the patient cope with their diagnosis, and support the family.
