The GenCure Marrow Donor Program, in partnership with Be The Match, hosts registration drives and special events to promote awareness about the urgent need for more potential donors. GenCure is an authorized donor center of the Be The Match Program. The program coordinates donor registration, marrow donation and search activities providing donor suitability, management, collection and processing of peripheral blood stem cells from adult donors. Are you a college student? You can help! Visit our CAMCO page to learn more or see us in action on Facebook or Instagram and join the #CAMCOUnite movement.
CAMCO is a campaign to educate university and college students about the importance of cancer prevention, early detection and helping someone who has been stricken with cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer will strike 1 out of 2 men and 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. at some time in their lives. Texas has 1.2 million university and college students, most of whom know little about cancer prevention and are, therefore, a prime target population for cancer information and services. Texas schools and communities must engage university and college students directly to educate them about cancer prevention and early detection and then deploy the students as vital “multiplier effects” in their local communities. More than 23,000 people have joined the Be The Match Registry at a CAMCO drive in the past five years. So far, 81 CAMCO donors have given marrow or peripheral blood stem cells on behalf of a patient in need of a transplant.
